This design showcases the delicate plantago leaves and cocksfoot grasses, that grow abundantly in the countryside and a graceful dragonfly . In a beautiful palette of dark blue, teal and textures.
The story behind the creation
This year, while wandering the South Downs, I was struck by the beautifully shaped leaves of Ribwort Plantain and the graceful stems of Cocksfoot grass—both vital to our wildlife. Songbirds feast on their seeds, rabbits nibble on the leaves, and Cocksfoot grass serves as an important pollen source for honeybees.
After pressing these plants, I arranged them into a countryside-inspired scene, which I then photographed. Layering in colours, textures, and the delicate form of a dragonfly, I brought this design to life.
As you admire this tea towel, remember that beauty surrounds us in even the humblest of plants. It’s a reminder that many so-called “weeds” are, in fact, extraordinary contributors to our ecosystems. I hope this background story gives you a deeper connection to this unique, nature-inspired tea towel.
